By default, when you use the Save As command to save e-mail messages and attachments in Outlook 2003, these items are saved in your My Documents folder. The path where e-mail messages and attachments are saved in Outlook 2003 by default is C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents.
You can change the location where e-mail messages and attachments are saved by adding the following registry value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\DefaultPath
To do this, do the following:
If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Be careful or hire a professional.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
- Type DefaultPath
- Double-click the DefaultPath value.
- In the Edit String dialog box, in the Value data box, type the path, including the drive letter, to the folder that you want to use for your Outlook saved items, and then click OK.
- Exit Registry Editor.

Outlook 2003 has an annoying feature where it only shows some menu options, with an icon at the bottom of the menu that you can click on to expand the menu and show all options.

To make Outlook always display the full menu: Tools > Customize > check the Always show full menus check box.

In Outlook (tested in XP and 2003) you cannot add/remove the BCC and From fields with the View menu if you have Word set as your editor. To turn Word off as your editor go to Tools > Options > Mail Format > uncheck Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages.

When you are adding someone as an invitee to a meeting you’ve created you can see their free/busy time. However, you can only see two months of free/busy time. If you would like to let people see more than two months of your free/busy time you can go to Tools > Options > Calendar Options > Free/Busy Options and change the default of 2 months.

If some messages aren’t showing up in Outlook (but they still show up in OWA or other clients) you may have a View filter. If you have a View filter it should be indicated in the top right corner of the main Outlook window. To clear a View filter in Outlook: View > Arrange By > Custom > Filter > Clear All.

Some versions of Horde’s IMP webmail program have a quirk where you can get an error, “There was an error moving the file - Over Quota,” when you are over your size limit and trying to delete e-mails. To get around this and get the account under the quota go to Options and select Deleting and Moving Messages. Uncheck both options and click Save Options. Delete enough e-mails to get under quota and click on the Purge Deleted link that now shows up at the top of the Inbox (to the right of ‘Delete | Undelete | Blacklist’).

In Outlook when you click on the little book to view your address book, or click on the To button in an e-mail message your default address book is open. If you have more than one address book you have to select it from the drop down menu in the top right corner.
To change your default address book in Outlook use the following:
Tools > Address Book > Tools > Options > select the desired list from ‘Show this address list first’

Word uses Reading Layout as the default view whenever it opens email attachments or other non-Word files. The idea is that Reading Layout makes documents easier to view, because the file is repaginated to fit your screen. But repagination can make lists, tables, and other document structures a bit difficult to read.
To prevent Word from automatically using Reading Layout view, click the Tools menu and select Options. In the Options dialog box, select the General tab. Remove the check mark next to Allow Starting In Reading Layout and click OK.
